OUR LADY OF FATIMA; APPARITION 13th OCTOBER 1917

OUR LADY OF FATIMA

13th OCTOBER 1917

This date was the day of the 'Miracle of the sun", witnessed by approximately 70,000 people, many of whom were sceptics, atheists and masons, who had attended in order to mock the apparitions. It is forgotten that, at the time of Fatima, Portugal was under a Masonic government and extremely anti-clerical and anti-Catholic. The children had missed the appointed date beforehand because they had been kidnapped by the Mayor of the town, who was a Mason, and imprisoned. The newspapers attended in order to ridicule the children and the gullible faithful. Afterwards, the journalists of the major newspaper in Lisbon converted. The crowd, at the vision of the sun falling to earth, fell to their knees, terrified, convinced that the end of the world was in play.
Sister Lucia described Our Lady as follows:
"She was all light. The light had various tones, yellow and white and various other colours. It was more intense and less intense. It was by the different tones and by the different intensity that one saw what was hand and what was mantle and what was face and what was tunic."*
The message of Our Lady was:
*Pray the Rosary- for the salvation of souls
*Do the First Saturday devotion - attend Mass and confession for five consecutive First Saturdays (good luck with that one!)
*That a devotion to Our Lord's Sacred Heart be established throughout the world.

*Father Thomas McGlynn OP, "Vision of Fatima" Sophia, (1948).
